Savory Sausage Bread

August 21, 2017 Randi 2 Comments

This easy and delicious breakfast treat is sure to become a favorite around your house!

Oh, Sausage Bread.   My mom introduced me to this delightful dish years ago, and it has been a family favorite ever since.  It's always a popular request for social gatherings and needless to say – doesn't last long!  You only need a few ingredients, and it comes together rather quickly.  Here's how!

Gather the ingredients:

  • 2 cans crescent rolls
  • 1 lb. hot breakfast sausage (it's delicious with any kind of breakfast sausage – regular, sage, turkey – but, the hot variety really gives it a kick)
  • 8 oz. package cream cheese
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Sur La Table

First up, preheat your oven to 375 degrees, and spray a 9×13 baking dish or pan with your favorite cooking spray.  Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until its nice and brown.  Drain the sausage and return it to the skillet.  Turn the heat down to low.  Cut the cream cheese into cubes and toss it in with the sausage.  Stir carefully until the cream cheese and sausage are fully combined.  Next, pop open one can of crescent rolls and unroll until you have a single sheet.  Place in the sprayed dish, and carefully spread to cover the bottom, pinching the seams of the rolls together.  Next, spoon the sausage and cream cheese mixture on top of the crescent rolls and spread to make an even layer.  Add the shredded cheese for the next layer.  Finally, open and unroll the second can of crescent rolls and lay on top of the shredded cheese, again carefully spreading out and pinching the seams together.  Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.  Cut into squares and enjoy!

I'll mention here that I've tried the cans of crescent sheets, which are easier to work with, but aren't quite as flaky as the regular crescent rolls.  For this dish, I prefer to use the regular ones.

There you have it.  The ever so delicious Savory Sausage Bread.  Give it a try this week for breakfast, and see how long it lasts around your house!
